Atkins has more than 14 years’ experience in operating, maintaining and improving roads and motorways on behalf of local and national government.

Roads bring goods and services to people, and people to each other. We firmly believe that ensuring highway infrastructure is effectively maintained and developed is essential in order to keep communities connected.

Our integrated approach to highway services delivery goes beyond what you might expect of the traditional Atkins consultancy role. In total, we manage 24,000km of roads across the UK – approximately the same distance from London to Hawaii.

We employ more than 700 staff who deliver works and maintenance activities for local authority clients and a further 800 who provide design and highways solutions. This joined-up approach to managing highway infrastructure drives efficiency and effectiveness in the services provided to help our clients meet the demands of declining revenue and capital budgets.

The work we do on behalf of our clients demonstrates our commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability. Our projects are designed with these in mind and we encourage innovation to achieve our carbon reduction target.

Developing our people is key to keeping them safe and knowledgeable of industry changes. Our award-winning Operational Training Academy holds bespoke courses that suit the needs of our ever changing market.

Safety and operational excellence is so important to us that we have invested in our own purpose-built control centre, providing a proactive management system to support infrastructure on any network, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
