Atkins awarded seven-year framework by Severn Trent Water - 16 October 2008
Atkins has been appointed by Severn Trent as one of four consultants on a seven-year framework to deliver feasibility and scoping design services for the £2.5 billion capital investment programme between 2010 and 2015.
Atkins will be providing feasibility and design services for infrastructure and non-infrastructure investment, including clean water distribution and wastewater collection systems. With a potential fee value in excess of £15 million, winning the framework will enable Atkins to significantly strengthen its water & environment team in the Midlands region.
In order to ensure that the capital investment programme gets off to a flying start in 2010, Severn Trent recognised the need for an early start to the programme for AMP5 and was the first company to issue an OJEU for consulting services for AMP5. The early-start programme is a welcome and bold move to help smooth out the design and construction peaks and troughs that historically have presented challenges in the AMP capital investment programme transition. The early engagement of the supply chain will enhance efficiency and help ensure delivery is on time and budget.
Nick Harney, managing director of the Water Operations team at Atkins says: “Severn Trent has taken a welcome industry lead by bringing forward the AMP5 investment programme. We are delighted to be given the chance to work with Severn Trent to deliver sustainable innovative solutions and influence the very real challenges we all face with climate change.”
Schemes for the first two years of the programme will be progressed to scoping design, ready to be handed over to contractors so they can begin detailed design work in 2009, ready for construction in 2010.
Paul Goddard, Severn Trent’s commercial manager, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, added: “We’re looking forward to working with Atkins and to building a strong, long-term partnership with them.”
