Keith Clarke says only ‘inconvenient’ questions get to the truth

The most important thing a chief executive can do is to ask the ‘inconvenient question’ according to Keith Clarke. Atkins' chief executive was being interviewed by the BBC’s Today programme presenter, Evan Davis, on TheBottom Line which is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service.

Keith said the inconvenient question was the only way to find out if your industry-leading policies were actually delivering industry-leading results.

“Are people giving maternity leave begrudgingly or in a supportive way? That’s in the body language of the person giving that maternity leave eight levels away from me. That’s the inconvenient question we have to answer.”

A video vignette of Keith’s appearance is now available on the BBC website, entitled My Bottom Line: Keith Clarke, chief executive, Atkins.
