As part of our role as official engineering design services provider for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Atkins is supporting the delivery of the temporary venues being used for the Games.

We are providing engineering and design services on utilities, civil and structural engineering, building services, acoustics and accessibility for many of the temporary venues. Among these is the Equestrian Centre in Greenwich Park, where Atkins designed a solution to make the sloping site level and to ensure that horses would not be distributed by vibrations from the void beneath the surface. This involved rigorous testing to make sure the venue is ready for Games times.

Atkins is also working on the Beach Volleyball venue at Horse Guard’s Parade, where careful planning, design and engineering has been central to ensuring the venue is sympathetic to its context and setting. Factors for consideration have included accessibility, noise, lighting, traffic, spectator experience and requirements of competitors.
