Respect for the environment

We are committed to conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner. All of our operations worldwide, apart from North America*, are covered by the ISO 14001 standard.

In addition to reducing carbon, our key environmental priorities have been identified as:

• Waste reduction
• Water efficiency
• Ecology and biodiversity

UK sustainable procurement

Our sustainable procurement strategy, certified by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, ensures that our supply chain considers social, environmental and economic issues, the triple bottom line.

Regulatory activity

In the last year we received two visits from the Environment Agency in the UK and no visits elsewhere in the world. No enforcement action was taken during the year and we have not been prosecuted for any breaches of environmental legislation.

*Following the acquisition of The PBSJ Corporation in October 2011, a phased three-year programme has been developed for our North America region to embed Atkins’ corporate responsibility policies.
